flood

6.10am this morning, half asleep and bound for the treadmill, I stepped outside my house and heard running water. I could see a burst watermain was causing a massive flood in the main intersection in Brooklyn. So I drove slowly down the hill and approached the edge of the water only to be approached by a rather soggy, calendar-worthy fireman. Good morning! He gestured for me to wind down my window and with a big grin said ‘Just take it a bit slow through there, it’s not too deep but we don’t want any casualities’. At which point I giggled and then SNORTED like a freak. Blushing followed by uncoordination of hands to put up window and keep the car moving. And all the while my Gran’s voice in my head ‘you only get one chance to make a first impression’. God.
