Organic buildings are the strength and lightness of the spiders’ spinning, buildings qualified by light, bred by native character to environment, married to the ground ~ Frank Lloyd Wright
As previously stated, I heart airports, and the proposed plans for Welly’s new international terminal are pretty spectacular – maybe not iconic, but quite gutsy none the less (of course this is the country where sticking a big giant carrot in a village street makes it famous…)
And this got me thinking about my favourite buildings. Of all the thresholds I have been lucky enough to cross, my favourite is Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia. It is utterly breathtaking to walk through, I was conscious of being enfolded within a piece of art. I love the sense of fun and wonder he brings to his work, it felt like a cartoon brought to life. The spindly turrets (represent the 18 apostles) were almost complete when I was there in 2006 – but the building is not expected to be finished for another few decades. Defintely enough of a reason to take me back to Barcelona. Well that and the sangria. And the pintos…
What are your favourite buildings?

A quaint but beautifully designed church in Florence – don’t even remember the name, but that’s not the important part now is it?
Not the one in Kentish Town then?
