commute

For the best part of the last six years, my morning commute has involved catching the 237 to Shepherds Bush and then the Central Line to Chancery Lane, or the E3 to Turnham Green and the District Line to Hammersmith, Piccadilly to Holborn. My commute was filled with the sounds and smells of the city, an occasionally humourous tube driver, attempting to read the Guardian or listen to my iPod while some bloke stuck his armpit in my face/perved down my top/smelled like cheese. Oh the glamour.

As a creature of habit commuting with like minded folk, I did see regular familiar faces. Even in a city of 11 million(ish) I recognised those that avoided all eye contact with others in the morning crush.

So now that my morning commute involves a 20 minute jaunt on the 7.52am #7 from Brooklyn to Willis Street, I am surprised to find that there has never been the same person(s) at my bus stop. Someone new seems to pop up and replace the dude from yesterday. I am trying not to be paranoid.

The bus driver though, is always the same. And he is a lovely friendly man who says ‘hello beautiful’ every morning. Which is not a bad way to start your day, all things considered.
