friday five: advice to the boys who may end up dating my two gorgeous friends about to take the l'amour online plunge…

Five: Your handle should be memorable and reflect something of yourself. It is unlikely you will be inundated with responses if your online identity is a variation on a theme of ‘hot4yrnorks’, ‘pandaporn’, ’6kids&desperate’ or ‘snufflyseeksbuggyboo’.

Four: Post a photo. Of yourself. That was taken in the last month. And don’t lie about your height. I don’t want the first date phone call from the ladies loos that they are having dinner with a weirdy beardy dwarf.

Three: Most sites offer the one-click electronic wink or smile which allows you to let someone know you are attracted to them, but without going to the crazy effort of sending an actual email. What winks really say is ‘I am using a scatter-gun approach to finding someone and you are one of 45 I just sent. That you are willing to respond to my utter lack of effort bodes well for our future together’.

Two: Texting, emailing and online chat cannot replace a phone call or meeting in person. How else do you know if there is a spark?. And if there is no spark man up. Don’t be saying you’ll call and then don’t.

One: Wooing. It doesn’t have to be a big deal, but you know make a bit of an effort. Shave before the first date. Hold the door open. Offer to pay. And speak openly. Don’t talk about your ex. Be interested and interesting. Trust me, these girls are worth it :)
