frosty boy

David Frost used to have a show on Sunday mornings on BBC1. He would go through the papers with a panel of politicians and/or journos. And then conduct interviews around the key stories of the week. Noshy and I would be happily ensconced with our respective editions (me, The Observer; her, The Sunday Times) and a massive pot of tea, reading out interesting tidbits and commenting on whatever Frosty mentioned. It was a brilliant way to spend Sunday (particularly when followed by a pub lunch).

Anyway back to Mr Frost. He’s the guy who interviewed Nixon after he resigned. On Sunday I saw Frost’s appearance on Parkinson, where he discusses the process of getting that interview and the ramifications of Nixon’s televised confessional. It is a truly fascinating piece of journalism. The Frost/Nixon interview was turned into a stage play a couple of years ago. And now Ron Howard has made a movie of it. Released in NZ on Boxing Day.

Update: And very sad to see the demise of Agenda, aside from post-news soundbites, it’s the only political show on tele. Worth a watch.
