gossip in the grain ~ ray lamontagne

I bloody love the information superhighway. Within moments of finding his new album online I have a copy to listen to again and again obsessively, as I am want to do. It’s the perfect album to hoover with the iPod on full-tit. Or maybe driving in summer through Central Otago from Alex to Wanaka, with the window down and the hot wind blowing across a summer dress, hair all over the show, taking the corners, singing along to this poet with his country, jazz, bluegrassy twang. Singing about weaving a flower through her hair and roses and cigarettes and his mama. And me. It’s the kind of music that makes you savor the smaller moments, the ones you think no one else really has. And according to his website, he’s playing at the Barbican next year. Yeah baby.

There’s something outrageous
‘Bout that evening sky
Just this side of dangerous
That look in your eye
I always knew that you were crazy
Always knew you could be cruel
Still, I would do just about anything
In the world for you
~ Hey Me, Hey Mama
