Sas’ Magical Mystery Tour was born a year ago today. According to google analytics, over the last 365 days, 18,633 hits originating from 53 different countries have visited. There has been 745 comments. The most popular tag is to posts about The Paramour.

It would be fair to say that I had no real idea of how important this little website among millions, would become to me. A year ago the first vestiges of my confidence returned after a six year long journey back to New Zealand. Back to myself. I think I wanted something to say I mattered; a presence, a place to be brave and honest, a way of saying I exist. Mostly I just wanted to write. I am a blogger because I believe it’s a radical thing to take your life and share it. The internets to me, is a metaphor for how we are all connected. So there is a special pleasure in reading your comments. Or in seeing a link back to this blog. And a couple of fellow bloggers have posted to me: wicked.

The thing I have learnt (apart from very, very basic html) is that I need to stay in the right now. I have given up on the idea of looking down the road, trying to divine how it’s all supposed to turn out – trying to figure out the next bit. I can’t see around the corner. Nothing is for sure. Or forever. I can, though, collect these vignettes and dwell on simple things like how much Rodney Hyde resembles an oompa loompa. And the redness of tomatoes.

And completely without cheese on toast; I appreciate you for reading, for following along, for being the spectrum of humanity at the other end of this little megaphone. You guys are awesome.
