As requested, the weekend weather has been bloody awesome! On Saturday we had lunch at Maranui, followed by a drive out to Eastbourne where the sea was a gorgeous inviting green, and local kids jumped off the wharf at Days Bay. Today we trekked up to Raumati Beach for lunch, and spent a few hours this afternoon walking through Karori Sanctuary; tuatara were basking in the sunshine and a saddleback fluttered around in the undergrowth with a few feet of us. Then on to Lyall Bay for a final ice cream on the beach.
I can’t believe I am leaving tomorrow morning. I am full of excitement and trepidation as well as the awesome sense of responsibility that goes with my role as vanguard. And who am I fucking kidding? I cannot fit everything I will need in one case. Executive decision made; the big red case and the smaller ‘dirty weekend’ case are both full to bursting. Somehow I will manage on the plane with my cabin bag, laptop and the portable iPod stereo thingy (just the necessities I promise you). A large tea chest of other-things-we-can’t-live-without and our two favourite pictures will follow by sea. Science Guy is all set for his early March departure, but six weeks suddenly feels like a very long time. Oh, and Rex has his pet passport and will be joining us in Spring when the rabies quarantine is up.
Bloody hell, next stop: London!
