st georges day

Today is St George’s Day. Which as far as I can discern, celebrates the day some dude called George (who may or may not have been English) stabbed up a dragon and then threatened to unleash it against a bunch of Cappadocian villagers if they didn’t consent to become Christians. I know. Anyhoo, this is a post that celebrates this great nation. And there is much to admire about Britain, beautiful music, literature, architecture. Not to mention cultural phenomena*.

General greatness aside, Britain repeatedly bashed colonised nation’s into submission in order to create the Empire. And while my parents are both English by birth, me and Little Brother were raised in a little colonial outpost called New Zealand. And this is how (some, admittedly vodka drinking) kiwis, see Britain:

*doo doo be doo doo
