Dear God,
First of all, massively big ups to you for all the sunshine! It’s almost too hot out there today, everyone is in the park or the beer garden with smiles on their faces. And I saw the man with the ice-cream cart down the road, looking at a yacht catalogue earlier today.
So anyway, yesterday afternoon I had this interviewy-chat with MT about a contract. At the time I was in the back of a cab, being driven by that crazy Iranian dude who insisted on commentating the journey in between sporadic shouty outbursts at other drivers. And chatting to me about the best way to navigate the 316 back to Chiswick. There are no interview tips for such a situation. So I completely winged it. The contract is for a really quite exciting project that is a bit big and scary and will challenge me and quite possibly prompt more letters to you in the future. The best part is that the team includes a couple of my favourite ex-colleagues and the opportunity to work with them again would be awesome. And the reason I was in the back of the cab, is that I was returning from the Toyota dealership in Twickenham. I got to test drive a Prius and meet Vince who looked like a front row prop and was the sweetest, non-hard sell guy you ever met. He crunched some numbers for me and it would be completely doable to get this fabulous car. Which will be necessitated by the location of the contract. And then this morning, me and Science Guy went and looked at a little house for rent. The property used to be the porters cottage for the mansion block next door and it is fabulous. Full of character and light, it is like nothing else I have seen. I love the flagstone and wood floors and the wrought iron balustrade, the skylights and the beautiful fireplace in the dining room. It even has a little garden. The lounge is painted a deep red colour and the kitchen has a little window seat. The owner and his kids were there, he is from Tasmania! Chatting to him was like catching up with an old mate and the reason the house is for rent is because the whole family are going to live in Cambodia where their adopted daughter is from. They are good people. And we have both fallen a little bit in love with this cottage. Because it just feels like home.
And so here is where you come in. Because you see, all of these things are hanging perilously on a decision that is completely out of my hands. The new contract is dependant on the company winning a bid that creates the need for me. Which means getting the car, and the house comes at a rental cost that requires the sort of contract rate that this big, scary job offers.
And you know God, I totally get that this year is for me about trust. About trusting that I am exactly where I am supposed to be, right now. Trusting that all the little signposts I see along the way, that this night-before-my-birthday-feeling is real. And Science Guy is along for the ride. We stood outside the house and he said with a grin, imagine how cozy that lounge will be in winter with the rain falling on the skylight? (he really is Ultimate Boyfriend).
So I guess I just wanted to get down on (virtual) paper, that this job and the opportunities it would present are pretty spectacular, and if there is anything you can do so that we win the bid on the 10th of June, well, I would be ever so grateful.
Love,
Sas

If God doesn’t listen and respond to this beautifully written and well-deserving letter, I think there should be a public enquiry.

Okay so I’m cheerleading like crazy for you. Also, seeing as there aren’t many families with kids from Cambodia in the UK, I bet I (e-)know your future landlords(Evie is from China but I started out looking at Cambodia many years ago). Doesn’t mean anything but if you’re looking for links for your worlds/life phases it’s a small hook to hang one on.
Good luck!!!!!! This all sounds so exciting!
Way to go, Sas!
i can’t stop looking at those adorable, fuzzy, little duckies! i hope everything works out for you! my fingers are crossed that your bid is accepted on the 10th!!
Sounds exciting, hope it works out. I’m not cheerleading like Jo but I’m happy for you!

That is pretty amazing – isn’t this just a big global village?
