It was during my first Autumn in London that I fell in love with this city. The light reflecting off damp cobbled streets during late afternoon sunsets. Fireside spots in olde worlde pubs. The rugged up market stall owners shouting their cockney bargains down Chiswick High Road. It was that romantic, heady first flush of love where I didn’t take much notice of the homeless folks sleeping on the street as I walked from Tube to office (or wonder too much at them being woken before it was light with fire hoses, by Police in Westminster). It just felt to me like I was constantly walking into a chalk drawing a la Mary Poppins.
These days I have a more grown-up ‘I see your scars and your shitty baggage’ kind of love for this place. Last night after a long, long day, before unlocking the door, overloaded with groceries, handbag, laptop I took a moment to gaze up the street, (past the bins out too early that the sodding foxes will rip apart overnight), to see the trees beginning to turn red and gold under a slate-grey sky, and felt the first chilly breath of winter.
Today is the Autumn equinox. Clocks go back in a few weeks. It’s time to break out scarves, winter boots and hot, hot chocolate ;)

Well I did wonder but I didn’t see the relevance to your non-dirty talk post, so went for the less dirty option, kind of.
@Paul in that case you and i will get along just fine.
As a former resident of Chiswick, I agree with everything you say.
@trinity there is nothing like your first ever week in london :)
I imagine London just like you first did. I haven’t been yet but want to go so badly.
I’m ready for cool weather and the leaves changing.
@ragster its a cock darling. you really are going to have to get better at spotting those when you are a growed up married lady.
Is that coffee supposed to be giving everyone the finger?
Pfft. It’s no Reading though is it. We have a 99p shop. Not a pound shop. A 99p shop.
Take that, Chiswick! We’ll take you all on.
Put your clocks back, for the winter..
