snowpocalypse

‘His soul swooned slowly as he heard the snow falling faintly through the universe and faintly falling, like the descent of their last end, upon all the living and the dead’ ~ James Joyce, The Dead

Just when this winter appears to be abating: more snow. My commute this morning was an adventure through a winter wonderland (this was marred slightly by a near miss in the car park with the Managing Director’s jag). But yay for London, so pretty in the quiet white, you put on a great show for the first visit of our lovely house guest.

As a local, I have to say I am kind of over it now. The trains are buggered, flights diverted, and the Council have not collected our rubbish for a few weeks. The street is littered with dead Christmas trees. It’s only a matter of time before we have to arm ourselves against gangs of rabid foxes who will rip open bags and feast on our leavings.

Of course, there is always a chance this is the beginning of a hundred year winter that will only end when four unbearably smug public school children become our rulers after pushing their way through the back of a magic wardrobe, stealing some very expensive coats and befriending a talking lion who’s actually Jesus.

Hhahahahha … what, exactly, do you kids call snow? Because in Canada, we only call it snow when you can lose small children in it, or build massive forts of questionable taste and design.

I think maybe you just stumbled through that wardrobe closet and haven’t found your way back yet. Don’t you know it doesn’t really snow in London? Glad to hear you’re back at work and not stranded in your flat!
