the weekend: on stage, on screen and in the garden

There is a proud kiwi tradition of spending part of the weekend at a massive hardware-cum-gardening store. I suspect its something we inherited from the Strayans, who also invented the Westfield Mall and the underarm throw. But not pavlova. Outside Mitre 10 Fat Freddy’s Drop is usually playing loudly next to the sausage sizzle, fund-raising for the Lower Hut scouts camping trip. Or the Kilbirnie U-14 rugby team to tour Samoa. Usually I go with honest intentions of purchasing batterys. Or hinges. But the majesty of the place requires a buffer zone between me and the shelves. Otherwise I end up leaving with a six outlet surge power board and an eight burner BBQ.

But this time I was on to them. I used the ‘Reserve and Collect’ function on B&Q’s website, went directly to the pick up point and left with the Steamer Chair. And just the Steamer Chair. Science Guy assembled it in four minutes. It totally ties the patio together.

Saturday Night was Date Night. We went to Waga’s for supper and then saw Kick Ass. I am not a fan of comic books as movies. Or violence. But this is completely awesome. I wish I’d seen Hit Girl on screen when I was 12. Jezebel has a fabulous review ‘In Defence of Hit Girl‘.

Our local pub, The Tabard has a small theatre upstairs. On Sunday afternoon we saw ‘Stiffed‘ a satire about the British MPs expenses scandal. Its good fun for Chiswickian political junkies. The Tabard was built as part of the development of Bedford Park in the late 1800′s. Inside the bar is the most beautiful tile pattern in a regal green and gold. Walking back from the pub I noticed that the trees along our road are completely bursting with blossom.

I hope your weekend was just as pleasant.

Most of my friends have forsaken entertainment that contains violence. I’m very lonely.

Good for you on the shopping control!

I saw the commercials for that movie, but had thought it was more for the teenagers. Maybe now, I just might have to watch it.

Sounds like a lovely date night!
