friday five: portraits of kenyetta and briana

Margaret Bowland is a Brooklyn based artist who won the prestigious Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition 2009 People’s Choice Award for ‘Portraits of Kenyetta and Briana’.

‘Beauty makes sense to me, has weight for me, only when it falls from grace. It starts to matter when it carries damage. Sorrow allows it to cast a shadow. It becomes three-dimensional. It enters our world. ~ Margaret Bowland

What beautifully raw and tender paintings, just lovely. The Black and white one of the young girl alone a particular favorite.

I found you because you found me Sas, pleased to meet you my fellow London dwelling blogger!
