monday me #4*

Things I am fearful of:

  • Being insignificant.
  • Spiders.
  • Not reaching my potential.
  • Feeling/looking/being fat on my wedding day.
  • Staying safe.
  • Birds.
  • Vomiting in public (nb: I have done this in a full English lecture. It’s as awful as you think).
  • Feeling like an imposter.
  • Not finishing things.
  • Hurting Science Guy.
  • Failing at something I love.
  • Getting pregnant.
  • Clowns.
  • Losing my enthusiasm for life.
  • Letting down a member of my Tribe.
  • Dying before I have done everything.
  • Not doing something because of fear.
  • That this is all there is.

*Inspired by Bindu Wiles: seriously fabulous woman.

Oh My. Except for the spiders and birds thing (I really like them), and being too old to get pregnant and weddings being a thing of the past, this could be my list. I really resonate with the last five.

Thank you for your comment on Bindu’s website today. You’re so right. We expect a flawed existence and yet, when I reflect, it’s the fact that I’ve been so afraid that makes life so valuable and beautiful. Anonymous lady ;-)

Oh hello! how wonderful to meet.
I am in awe of your bravery and courage – who the fuck wouldn’t be afraid after what you have been through?
Frankly, it would be weird if you weren’t a little scared!

    SAME!

When we bought the car yesterday, we both had a geek-out moment of ‘what if the car is the coolest thing about us’?

I feel a little bit like that about this blog. But I hope I am the same in ‘real life’ as I am here. Lets meet up in Welly next year and compare notes ;)

3, 8 and 11, I can totally relate to. Although I am certain that just being me will be enough and that I can make a success of my business off the back of it, I do still fear that somehow everyone will be like ‘Um, yeah, er, so what Genna, you ain’t all that’ it kinda frightens the bejeebus outta me sometimes. But then I think, well who the hell are you gonna be? What are the alternatives? Then I give myself a stern talking to, a swift bum kick and try to forget the fear, or at least quieten it a little. Tis like Seth Godin says, it’s just the Lizard Brain [or Senga in my case] trying to prevent us from doing something risky. We have the choice to tell it to shut the hell up, we should make that choice.

Oh and I would quite like to meet you, you sound like a kick ass gal and we share a city after all xx
