*taps and blows* heelloooo is this thing on?
Oh hai world! I am back from Oop North, and Big Hairy Scary Project has gone live. I am now pretty much recovered from 18 months of semi-craziness and one week of sod all sleep, and the crick in my neck from being on the phone for two days straight has worked itself out. The rash from the man-made fibres in the project t-shirt worn for many hours has subsided.
On Saturday Science Guy buggered off to Spain on a week long Mancation with most of the Wellington Red football team, leaving me to enjoy a blissful and intentionally offline weekend, alone. Since Friday I have not twittered or blogged, my 1000+ reader remains unread. I have not opened the steadily growing Scrivener file that contains the basis of a writing project, the point of which is not yet clear to me. I left my phone on the charger. I was unconnected.
I gardened. I weeded and collected leaves, and binned rotting and broken pots and debris with nothing for company but Radio 4 and two loony furry people (one of whom went careening at high speed into the window while chasing a leaf. Twice). I spent several anxious moments tripping to the recycling centre under an ominously cloud-filled sky with the roof down. I cleaned the car and bought groceries.
I read Aunt Mame, (The Divine Ms G: a copy is winging its way to you!) and started Freedom; I spent several hours yesterday meandering through two Sunday papers. And I watched Vicky Christina Barcelona, Ever After, Ferris Buellers Day Off, Downton Abby, Swingtown, The Song of Lunch. I cooked a one pot lamb stew and spicy parsnip soup with cheesey bread. I thought about the Chilean Miners, yoga, the power of loss and how amazing line-dried sheets smell.
At 10:10 on the 10th of October 2010, I sat propped up with pillows surrounded by the cats and papers in our quiet bedroom and felt utterly grateful.

Beautiful.
How very lovely … what a sweet account of time well spent. I love the way line dried sheets smell too.
That sounds like a wonderful weekend. And to share it with the furry people, well that just makes it. Good for you for chilling out after project craziness.
Sounds like time well spent indeed! I love weekends like that.
What did you think of VCB? I love it :) xx

Himself is away for a few days training people to use EPOS at the end of the month. Maybe I will try to disconnect then. I’m very very bad at it. Can I just read emails? :)

How on earth did you find the time to do all that in a weekend??!!! Awesome.
sas Replied:
to be fair, the garden is the size of a kitchen table so that only took a morning!
Perfect, I long for a similar weekend.

That sounds like a perfect weekend, I’m a little jealous!
Before purchasing any plant in pot, tip it out and inspect the roots for signs of being potbound or sneakily having just been potted up into larger pot (usually sold by size of pot). They shouldn’t mind you doing this – if they do, put pot down and leave.
